Not old done do Wolf (2012)
Altered book assemblage
by
Frank Turek
This book opens to a black-and-white interior-decorating photo with a stylized cat figurine perched atop. This photo is on a blue-stripe patterned background. Below, on the inside cover, is a cropped image of WWI military men looking to the right with binoculars. In the spine of the book is a fabricated pocket containing two trimmed down playing cards with grammar exercises collaged into the reverse side. The frame of the book is covered with a painting reproduction of hands on a desk handling coins from the painting The Moneylender and his Wife. On the inside top of the frame area is a black and white magazine photo of hands dealing cards. On the sides of the top compartment are two skeleton keys on a purple felt backdrop. In the bottom section of the frame is a dark colored illustration of workers smoking a field with smudge pots. In the bottom left corner is a faceless watch, open to reveal its inner mechanisms and brass base plate. In vials, stacked one on top of the other, is a bisected illustration of a coconut. In the top vial, on a red fur platform, is a small flat plastic bucket game piece. Running across the horizontal center of the frame is an etching illustration of two hands demonstrating how to make an initial incision with a scalpel. The title, date, and collaged-on signature are on the bottom of the frame.
