Altered book assemblage by

The inside book cover is covered with a pink, mottled cloth. Glued to the center top of the cover is a small box with a black-and-white photograph of an alpine landscape pasted on top. Within this box is a set of standard-sized playing cards. The Late-Romantic painting “The First Piano Lesson,” by the French artist Jules Alexis Muenier, is pasted to the face of the cards. The inside bottom of the box is a color illustration of garden vegetables. The inside lid of this box is a color-tinted photograph of King George V. Below this box on the inside cover are two black-and-white photos of opera singers in costume. Pinned beneath these photos on a card is a found caption and a line drawing of a flower. The frame is covered with text from the encyclopedia set from which this book originally came. The background of the framed area is a lithograph illustration of butterflies (Argynnis Liliana). On the upper left and right sides are tiles with color illustrations of the network of veins and lymph pathways in the human body. Resting on the bottom of the framed area, on either side of a clear plastic rectangular cube are two vials containing illustrations of satellite photos of the earth. Acting as small vases, the vials also contain plastic flowers. The two ends of a string of pale blue seed beads are pinned to the inside top left and right of the frame with the string of beads draped onto the interior of the frame. The small center piece is a rectangular piece of purple-colored glass behind which is an etching illustration of an elbow joint. On the side panels of the framed area are full-length narrow pieces of mirror.
