Altered book assemblage
by
Frank Turek
The inside cover is covered with a number chart titled, “Declination Contrary Name to Latitude.” Inset into this chart is a multiplication table of the speed of light per second/minute/hour/day/year. Toward the top, just right of center, is a small die with the four side facing up. The frame is wrapped with a text referencing early scientific development, Galileo, etc. The inside of the frame is lined with blue fur and is equally divided into a top and bottom section. The bottom section features an etching illustration of two biblical era women facing and gesturing toward one another with an inset square mirror placed between them. Floating above the illustration are five light blue, horizontal, 1/8 inch thick sticks all set equidistant apart. Folded into the sticks is a transparent plastic square with an optical starburst pattern. The background in the top section is a blue-hued photograph of a man with goggles and lab coat demonstrating a laser. Atop the lab technician’s face is a clear plastic rectangular block. In the lower left corner is a game tile depicting the letter E. To the right is a coil spring of flat rusted metal with a plastic model of a spinal column extending diagonally up to the right from the coil. The title, date, and signature are on the outside bottom of the frame.
